EXPERT MR. CHRIS D ANDREA of The NEW YORK CITY HEALTH DEPARTMENT HEALTH IS COMING TO
THE ONTARIO for The ANTHRAX - MOLD AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONFERENCE IN MARKHAM, JANUARY 31, 2001.
He will discuss The New EPA Regulations on Mold and current New York City Mold
(Mould)-Fungi Assessment and Remediation in Indoor Environments Protocol is are adopted by
more than thirty U.S. Cities and States and has been adopted by Environmental Abatement
Professionals across Canada. The special guest speaker is Mr. Chris D Andrea M.S. of The
New York City Department of Health, Environmental and Occupational Disease Epidemiology
Unit
This conference will focus on Anthrax-Infectious Disease Control, Hazardous Materials
and Biological Terrorism including issues of concern in buildings. AsToxic Mold, a
specific Fungi, Stachybotrys Chartarum, has been identified as a potential source of
health problems, especially in children. Toxic Mold has been found in commercial
buildings, houses, HVAC systems, hospitals and schools, identified in, but not limited to,
portable classroom buildings. Stachybotrys chartarum is a potent mycotoxin, which renders
indoor environments unacceptable for human occupancy. This mycotoxin has been in the press
consistently and found in school portables, in ceilings, walls, basements, wet and cool
damp areas. All buildings could potentially contain mold & fungus. Where there is
moisture or condensation build up or water damage may have occurred, around pipes and
fittings, wet pipe insulation, roof leaks, after fires, in crawl spaces and water closets.
This is an issue where properly trained personnel should only handle and remove mould and
fungus. Poor building maintenance results in mold problems due to water damage. There has
been a significant increase in Mold Litigation in the United States.
